Zakroczym is a town in Poland in the Masovian Voivodeship in the district (powiat) Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki , about 32 km northwest of Warsaw, on the right (eastern) bank of the Vistula, on the expressway S7 Warsaw – Gdansk. In 2004 the city had 3395 inhabitants.

history

  • Zakroczym was mentioned in the so-called Mogilno falsification in 1065.
  • In 1422 Zakroczym received the town charter in Kulm.
  • 1656–1657 captured by the Swedes in the Second Northern War and partially destroyed.
  • 1709 renewed destruction in the Great Northern War by the soldiers of the Swedish king Karl XII.
  • 1793 Russian occupation.
  • 1795 Prussian occupation - assigned to the Thorner Regenz.
  • 1831 during the uprising against the Russians, the seat of the leadership of the uprising.
  • September 10-28, 1939 - Zakroczym in the vicinity of the besieged Modlin fortress.
  • Autumn 1944 - camp for around 30,000 refugees after the fall of the Warsaw Uprising
