Zane McIntyre (formerly Zane Gothberg ; born August 20, 1992 in Thief River Falls , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the New Jersey Devils from the National Hockey League since February 2020 and for their farm team , the Binghamton Devils , plays in the American Hockey League . Before that, he spent four years in the Boston Bruins organization .
Career
McIntyre was selected immediately after his time at high school in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round at 165th position by the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League . The goalkeeper initially spent two years in the United States Hockey League with the Fargo Force, where he was named the best goalkeeper in the league in his second year. From 2012 he was drawn to the University of North Dakota for three years , where he initially played for the university's ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and later in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference . In his third and final year of college he was named goalkeeper of the year of the NCHC - as in the USHL - before he was honored a little later with the Mike Richter Award as the best goalkeeper of the National Collegiate Athletic Association nationwide .
In June 2015, the Boston Bruins finally signed their draft election and made him a professional on their farm team , the Providence Bruins , in the American Hockey League . McIntyre spent the entire 2015/16 season there and shared the role in goal with Malcolm Subban and Jeremy Smith . After injuries to the Boston Bruins goalkeepers shortly after the start of the 2016/17 season , the American was appointed to the NHL squad for the first time and made his debut on October 25, 2016. However, he spent most of the season again in Providence and was elected to the AHL Second All-Star Team at the end of the year .
After the 2018/19 season, his expiring contract in Boston was not extended, so he joined the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent in July 2019 . They used it exclusively in the AHL at the Utica Comets before it was given to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Louis Domingue at the trade deadline in February 2020 .
