Sawodoukowsk ( Russian Заводоуко́вск , scientific transliteration Zavodoukovsk ) is a Russian city in the western Siberian Oblast of Tyumen with 25,647 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
Zavodoukowsk is located about 100 km southeast of the regional capital Tyumen on the river Bolshoi Uk , the "Great Uk", which is a tributary of the Tobol , and on the route of the Trans-Siberian Railway at kilometer 2236. The nearest town is Yalutorovsk , a good 20 km northwest of it .
history
Zavodoukowsk was first mentioned in 1729 as the village of Ukovskaya (Уковская), whose name comes from the Uk River. 1787 was renamed Sawodoukowskoje (Заводоуковское), with the addition zavod stands for "factory" and is reminiscent of the first industrial operation of the place - the BEEN in the 18th century in operating distillery.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the place became a station settlement after the construction of the Trans-Siberian section Tyumen - Omsk . In 1960 it was declared a town and at the same time it was given its current name.
