Zeca Assumpção

Zeca Assumpção (* 19th September 1945 as José Thomaz de Assumpção in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian jazz musician ( bass , arrangements , composition ).

Live and act

Assumpção studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston with John Neves , William Curtis , Herb Pomeroy , Ron McClure and Gary Burton .

Back in Brazil, he initially worked as a studio musician. Between 1974 and 1977 he was part of the group of Hermeto Pascoal ( Viajando Com O Som (The Lost '76 Vice-Versa Studio Session) ). He also worked with Lelo Nazário, Zé Eduardo Nazário and the Grupo Um , with whom the LP Marcha sobre a cidade was created in 1979 . At the same time, he made music with Egberto Gismonti both in a duo and in the Academia de Danças and performed in this constellation in Europe. In 1981 and 1982 he worked with André Dequech, Mauro Senise and Robertinho Silva in the group Alquimia , with which the LP Alquimia was recorded. In 1984 he was a member of the Radamés Gnattali quintet. In the following years he arranged for Caetano Veloso , Virgínia Rodrigues, Carlinhos Vergueiro, Sueli Costa.

He also worked with Victor Assis Brasil, John Scofield , Nelson Ayres , Claudio Roditi , Joyce , Wagner Tiso , Elis Regina , João Bosco , Lucio Alves, Chico Buarque , Michel Legrand , Gal Costa , Ná Ozzetti, Ivan Lins , Adriana Calcanhoto, Luis Bacalov, Benny Carter , Dorival Caymmi , Marlui Miranda , Paula Morelenbaum / Ryuichi Sakamoto / Jaques Morelenbaum , Badi Assad , Moacir Santos or José Miguel Wisnick.

He also composed for film, television and ballet. For the feature film Barrela: Escola de Crimes (1990) he was awarded the Candango Trophy for the best film music.
