Ziyed Chennoufi (born November 29, 1988 in Hagen , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German - Tunisian basketball player . In his youth, Chennoufi played for German national teams, including the U18 national team at the Albert Schweitzer tournament in 2006. Due to injuries, he was only used sporadically in his career as a professional in the basketball league and in 2011 he moved back home of his ancestors to Tunisia, where he was twice champion with Étoile Sportive du Sahel. He was also active in the Tunisian men's selection .

Career

Chennoufi came into contact with the sport at his birthplace in Hagen, which is the seat of the German Basketball Federation and is considered the stronghold of basketball. In 2007, with the Phoenix Hagen youth team, he was runner-up in the youth basketball league . With the German U20 national team, he won the European Championship of Division B in 2008 and the return to Division A of the best European junior selection teams together with the later men's selection players Elias Harris , Tibor Pleiss , Robin Benzing , Philipp Schwethelm , Lucca Staiger , Karsten Tadda and his long-time teammate Per Günther . While Per Günther then moved from Hagen to the first division club ratiopharm Ulm in Württemberg , Chennoufi joined another first division club from Württemberg. At EnBW Ludwigsburg he also played with a double license in the second German ProA league for the Kirchheim Knights. After a fifth place with promoted Kirchheim in the ProA 2008/09 and five short appearances in the Ludwigsburg first division team, he was initially used more and more often in the basketball Bundesliga 2009/10 before a herniated disc threw him back in February 2010. After knee problems, he played his last and only game in the 2010/11 season for Ludwigsburg in November 2010 . After a second herniated disc, from a medical point of view, the end of his professional sports career was suggested.

After Chennoufi had already decided in 2010 in favor of continuing his international career in Tunisia, he moved in 2011 to the homeland of his ancestors and won in December 2011 with the Etoile Sportive du Sahel of Sousse the FIBA Africa Basketball Club Championship , the Cup competition of the African national champion. In addition, he was Tunisian champion and cup winner with the club in 2012 and 2013 and again reached the FIBA Africa Basketball Club Championship final in 2013, which was lost. In the 2012/13 season he was about to return to the Kirchheim Knights and signed a contract with the club, especially since, according to his statement, his previous club was still outstanding. However, this contract was canceled after he was denied the release for the club change and he returned to Tunisia. After he had not been included in the final squad of the Tunisian national team at the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Olympic Games , he took part in the 2013 African Championship with the Tunisian men's selection . Here, however, the defending champion only reached ninth place and missed qualifying for the 2014 World Cup . During the Mediterranean Games in Mersin in 2013 , he won the bronze medal with the Tunisian national team. In summer 2014 he moved to Club Africain Tunis , where he finished third in the FIBA Africa Basketball Club Championship in December 2014.
