Tibor Pleiß (born November 2, 1989 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German basketball player . He participated in the 2010 NBA draft part and was at 31 instead of the New Jersey Nets selected and the Oklahoma City Thunder transferred. He was under contract with the Utah Jazz in the NBA for the 2015/16 season . He has been playing for the Turkish first division club Anadolu Efes SK since 2018 .
Career
Beginnings
Pleiß was born in Bergisch Gladbach and grew up in the Dellbrück district of Cologne . He began his basketball club career at MTV Cologne in 1850 and joined the youth team at RheinEnergie Cologne in 2003 (later transferred to Cologne 99ers ). From 2006 he was a student at the sports boarding school in Cologne-Müngersdorf. As a top performer of the Cologne U19 team, like his teammate Philipp Schwethelm , he recommended himself for a place in the Bundesliga squad and should learn from players like Marcin Gortat and Aleksandar Nađfeji . In February 2007 Pleiß was under coach Saša Obradović his debut in the basketball league .
Breakthrough in the Bundesliga
In 2009, after RheinEnergie Cologne went bankrupt, he moved to Brose Baskets in Bamberg. There he got a lot of playing time from the first season and stood on the field for an average of around 20 minutes per game in the basketball Bundesliga . In addition, he stood on the floor for an average of 18 minutes per game in the EuroLeague . He was able to adapt to the rising level in the league and the growing playful demands of Bamberg from 2009 to 2012 and maintain his share of the game.
During his time at Bamberg, the team was able to win the championship title and the trophy every season. In March 2012 the Brose Baskets achieved the “three-peat” (three titles in a row) in the cup and in June in the championship.
ACB
After the successful European Championship qualification in summer 2012, in which the German national team remained unbeaten, Pleiß moved to the Spanish club Caja Laboral . In the 2013/14 season Pleiß was able to double his values in the ACB and Euroleague leagues and was five times player of the week in the ACB league.
For the 2014/15 season he moved to FC Barcelona . In Barcelona, however, he could not always convince and was mainly used as a replacement for Ante Tomić . In February 2015, the draft rights to Pleiß were transferred from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Utah Jazz in a player swap . Pleiß prematurely terminated his contract with Barcelona in order to switch to the NBA .
NBA and D-League
On July 15, 2015, Pleiß signed a multi-year contract with Utah Jazz , making him the fourth German in the 2015/16 NBA season with Dirk Nowitzki , Chris Kaman and Dennis Schröder . After four short assignments for Jazz, Pleiß was sent to the Idaho Stampede , a jazz farm team , in the D-League on November 30, 2015 . There he should get match practice and gain experience. During the season he was recalled to the Stampede four more times. He completed a total of 28 games for the Stampede and scored 12.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks on average, but missed the D-League playoffs with the team. For Jazz, Pleiß made twelve season appearances and averaged 2.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in an average of seven minutes.
In August 2016, Pleiß was transferred to the Philadelphia 76ers with future second-round picks for Kendall Marshall . A few days after the transfer, Pleiß was released from the Sixers.
Return to Europe
Pleiß then moved to Galatasaray Istanbul in Turkey. At the end of July 2017, he signed a two-year contract with the Valencia Basket Club . For the 2018/2019 season he moved to Anadolu Efes Istanbul .
National team
In 2007 he took part in the European Championship in Spain with the German U18 national team, in 2008 he won the B-EM in Romania with the German U20 team and was also part of the German squad for the U20 EM in Greece the following year.
In August 2009, Pleiß made his debut in the senior national team. He was part of the German team at the European Championships in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015 and at the 2010 World Cup.
