Zygmunt Józef Pawłowicz (born November 18, 1927 in Danzig ; † March 18, 2010 ibid.) Was Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Danzig .

Life

Zygmunt Józef Pawłowicz did not take his Abitur at the Lyceum in Chełmża until 1947 because of the Second World War . He then entered the seminary of the Diocese of Gdansk in Pelplin and received on 20 September 1952, the sacrament of Holy Orders . In 1952 he was initially vicar in the parish in Gdańsk Stogi . Since he refused to be put on the list of "patriot-priests", he had to leave Danzig and in 1953 worked in Wiele in the bishopric of Kulm . After a short vicariate in Nowy Dwór Gdański he was in Sopot until 1957 .

From 1957 to 1964 he worked as a notary in the diocesan curia of Bishop Edmund Nowicki . In 1959 he completed postgraduate studies at the Catholic University of Lublin , from which he graduated with a degree in theology. As secretary of the Synod Commission, he played a key role in the Second Danzig Synod of 1961.

From 1964 to 1966 Zygmunt Pawłowicz was pastor in Stegna near Danzig, where he was in charge of the former Stutthof concentration camp . From 1966 to 1985 he was pastor in Gdańsk Brzeźno . From 1971 he was also active in the diocesan administration and was appointed monsignor in 1973. In 1976 he was at the Catholic Academy in Warsaw (ATK) to the working historical religious anthropology by Franz Sawicki to Dr. theol. PhD . In 1985 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the teaching of post-conciliar European synods on people in dogmatics . From 1974 he taught fundamental theology at the Gdańsk seminary , from 1990 also religious philosophy and dogmatics and published over 150 essays and over 20 works.

On 10 August 1985 it appointed Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Tamallula and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Gdansk . Józef Cardinal Glemp , Archbishop of Warsaw , donated him the episcopal ordination on September 7, 1985 in Gdańsk's Marienkirche ; Co- consecrators were Tadeusz Gocłowski CM, Bishop of Danzig, and Marian Przykucki , Bishop of Kulm .

In the same year he was appointed Vicar General of the Archbishopric Ordinariate of Danzig. He was provost of Oliwa Cathedral . At the Bishops' Conference , Zygmunt Pawłowicz was a member of the Commission for Clergy Affairs, the Scientific Council and the Council for Dialogue with Nonbelievers. In 1990 he became the sect commissioner of the Polish Bishops' Conference. On January 24, 2005, his resignation due to reasons of age was granted.

Bishop Zygmunt Józef Pawłowicz died on March 18, 2010 after a serious illness. He found his final resting place in the crypt of the bishops of Danzig in the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Danzig in Oliwa ( formerly Cistercian monastery church ).
