CE Electric UK Funding Company is an electrical distribution company based in Newcastle Upon Tyne in England. It is the owner of Northern Electric Distribution Limited (NEDL) and Yorkshire Electricity Distribution plc (YEDL) which are the Distribution Network Operators for the North East England and Yorkshire regions.

History

The company was created after the takeover of Northern Electric by CalEnergy in 1996.[1] The company disposed of the supply business of Northern Electric to Innogy in 2001 in exchange for the distribution business of Yorkshire Electricity.[2]

Network

CE Electric UK is the electricity distribution business for North East England, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. The company is responsible for delivering power to the 3.8 million electricity domestic and business customers in this area.

CE Electric UK’s network consists of more than 65,000 substations, 29,000 kilometres of overhead line and 62,000 kilometres of underground cable, covering an area of more than 25,000 square kilometres.[citation needed]
