['solid] - the socialist youth was a socialist youth association based in Berlin . The Linkspartei.PDS at federal level and most of the WASG regional associations recognized Solid as a joint youth association. Solid stand "for so zialistisch, li nk, d emokratisch". The youth association defined its political content independently of the party. At a federal delegate conference on May 20, 2007 , together with representatives of WASG youth structures and the Junge Linken.PDS , it was decided to re-form the joint youth association of the party Die Linke , Linksjugend ['solid] . Solid was the only youth organization among all parties represented in the Bundestag that was observed by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

Self-image

According to its own information, the purpose of the youth association was a critical examination of capitalist society , a cultural offensive from the left and a contribution to political education.

The association confessed to democratic socialism and defined itself as socialist , emancipatory , anti-fascist and democratic and was a member of the globalization-critical network attac and the European network of the young democratic left .

Political orientation

The youth association was classified as left-wing extremist by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and observed.

In its "Political Platform" the association named the "struggle for self-determination of the individual and the end of the exploitation of people by people" as the central task of socialist politics. With reference to Karl Marx , the association assumed that, despite the far-reaching changes that have taken place in society, “one cause of all social grievances” is capitalist relations of production. The aim is not only to combat civilizational problems, but also to eliminate one of their causes, i.e. the capitalist mode of production.

The aim was a society “beyond capitalism and authoritarian state socialism”. For the association this resulted in the fact that central points of reference for its own activities were “the fight against nationalism, racism and gender inequality and for radical democracy and equality”. “Solidarity and internationalist thinking” is a “necessary condition” for this and must be deeply anchored in both “political awareness and political action”.

history

The association was founded at a congress from June 18-20, 1999 in Hanover . The establishment of the youth association was also the result of the decline of the AGJG , which until 1998 represented the youth structure of the PDS. The Baden-Württemberg state association of the AGJG, which continued until 2000, joined the new youth association at the end of 2000. On March 25, 2000, Solid was officially recognized as a youth association by the PDS . The founding of the regional spin-off PDS-Jugend Berlin-Brandenburg did nothing to change this in 2004 , which did not become dominant even in this region.

At the beginning of 2005, the association began a campaign “Aufmucken gegen Rechts”, which, in addition to an educational offensive on right-wing youth culture, focused on the publication of a free CD with 16 titles by music artists such as Jan Delay , Such a Surge , Virginia Jetzt! , Mellow Mark , Die Sterne , Die Fantastischen Vier , Ferris MC , Beginner , Nosliw , Seeed , Konstantin Wecker and others.

During the 2006 World Cup, Solid became known by calling for the German flags to be removed from vehicles by force. Forms for information to motorists could be downloaded from the solid website www.nein-zum-deutschlandhype.de. Due to public pressure, the federal party was forced to remove the link to the solid website.

On May 20, 2007, the Left Youth ['solid] was founded together with the WASG youth structures and the Junge Linken.PDS .

Social anchorage

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg the association was a member of the Ring of Political Youth (RPJ). ['Solid] was also partially represented in the RPJ at the district level. In addition, the association was an active member of state youth groups or district youth groups in several federal states .

structure

The association was divided into 15 regional associations - only in Saarland there was none - which in turn were subdivided into over 100 local and regional groups and district associations. These regional associations of ['solid] enjoyed largely autonomy .

The former university groups have been organized in the left university association Die Linke.SDS since May 2007 .

The organs at the federal level were the Federal Delegates' Conference, the Federal Spokesperson's Council (BSPR), the State Council and the Federal Arbitration Commission as well as thematic federal working groups (BAK). These met in principle in public. At the state level, there were also state working groups (LAK), "state spokesperson councils" (LSPR, in some states alternatively also called state boards) and state level commissions. Most of the work took place in the largely independent local groups (OG).

Members between the ages of 14 and 35 could become members, whereby the participation in the youth association was independent of age. Sympathizers had largely the same rights as members of Solid. The average age was around 19 years.

The promotion of the equality of the members was a basic principle of the association. In the case of elections to committees and organs within the youth association, a share of at least fifty percent women had to be guaranteed. In addition, women had the right to set up their own structures within the association and to hold women's plenaries, as well as to exercise a veto with suspensive effect.

According to its own information, the association had around 1,800 members. However, the 2005 report on the protection of the constitution assumes a membership of around 800. Members of the youth association also held positions in the youth union, in student representatives at state, district and school levels, in the committees of student self-government, in left-wing globalization-critical organizations such as attac , and in numerous parliaments at all levels, including the German Bundestag.

The Linkspartei.PDS supported Solid according to its annual financial plan with 70,000 euros.

Camps and leisure activities

In the tradition of the workers' youth movement, the association, as a left-wing and socialist youth association, also offered various camps and leisure activities with political and emancipatory claims. In addition to a joint organization, content-related workshops, political role-plays and joint activities were mostly part of the offer. The camps usually took place in summer and at Whitsun, among others. a. on Lake Constance, in Thuringia, in Lower Saxony, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony-Anhalt and in summer on the Baltic Sea.
