Politics and world events
Roman Empire
- Emperor Augustus divides the Roman Empire into 14 regions, each of which he subordinates to a curator, creates a standing army, reduces the number of legions from 50 to 25. Together with the auxiliary peoples, the Imperium Romanum has around 300,000 soldiers.
- Emperor Augustus expands the Praetorian Guard (9 cohorts under 2 prefects ).
- Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus settles parts of the Germanic Hermunduren in the abandoned settlement area of the Marcomanni in the Main area. He is the only Roman military commander to advance across the Elbe . He creates a boardwalk in the marshland between the Rhine and Ems ("pontes longi" - long bridges).
- Gaius Caesar takes command of the army in Armenia . Publius Sulpicius Quirinius becomes his military adviser. Emperor Augustus installs Ariobazanes II as king of Armenia, the brother of Tigranes III. This was the predecessor of the married king-siblings Tigranes IV and Erato , who have now been deposed .

- The Scytho-Parthians destroy the Indian feudal empire of the Shaka .
- Heraios becomes king of Kushana .
- The king of the north-west Arab empire of the Nabataeans Aretas Philopatris (Aretas IV.) Marries Huldu.
- In China, Emperor Píng von Han succeeds his late predecessor Ai and heralds the Yuánshǐ era . Zhao Feiyan, the empress and wife of Cheng Han, is forced to kill herself. The Han dynasty is a centrally controlled official state based on the teachings of Confucius (Kung-tse) and to whose offices everyone has access on the basis of prescribed exams. Confucius receives the posthumous honorary title of Prince Baochengxuan .

- In what is now Eritrea , the Aksumite Empire comes into being .
America
- Moxos ceases to be a major religious place in South America. Moxos (or Llanos de Moxos) is a seasonally flooded tropical savannah located in the Bolivian Amazon .

- The Aqua Alsietina aqueduct is built.

- (or 3 AD ): Rome, Italy. The Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso ("Ovid") wrote his mythological work Metamorphoses .
- It was in Rome that silk became known for the first time .
- Construction of an artificial harbor in Portus near Ostia .
- Glass is made for the first time in Sidon ( Phenicia ) .
- The abacus (abacus) is known throughout the Roman Empire.
- In Rome the conflicting schools of law of the Sabinians and the Proculeians arise .

Note: Dionysius Exiguus (around 470-540) calculated this year as the year of birth of Jesus of Nazareth . In fact, this is now between 7 and 4 BC. . Chr accepted. In the Roman Empire, the years were usually named after the consuls. The “ Christian calendar ” was not definitively used by the church until around 1060 .
