(236305) Adamriess is an asteroid located in the inner main belt . It was discovered by the Italian amateur astronomer Vincenzo Silvano Casulli on January 19, 2006 at the observatory in the Vallemare district ( IAU code A55) in the municipality of Borbona in the province of Rieti . The asteroid had already been sighted on December 11, 2001 under the provisional designation 2001 XS 261 at the Lincoln Laboratory Experimental Test Site in New Mexico .
The asteroid was named on April 22, 2016 after the American astrophysicist Adam Riess (* 1969), who together with Saul Perlmutter and Brian P. Schmidt received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2011 “for discovering the accelerated expansion of the universe through observations far distant supernovae ". The asteroids (231265) Saulperlmutter and (233292) Brianschmidt , also discovered by Vinzeno Silvano Casulli, were named after Saul Perlmutter and Brian P. Schmidt on the same day .
