(2687) Tortali ( 1982 HG ; 1927 TH ; 1931 TK 3 ; 1934 GU ; 1942 GK ; 1959 TQ ; 1963 SV ; 1970 GB ; 1977 AN 1 ) is an asteroid about 14 kilometers in size in the central main belt , which appeared on April 18 Was discovered in 1982 by the American astronomer Martin Watt at the La Silla Observatory at the Lowell Observatory , Anderson Mesa Station ( Anderson Mesa ) near Flagstaff , Arizona ( IAU code 688).

designation

(2687) Tortali was named after Tortali , the spirit of day and sun in the mythology of the Melanesians in the New Hebrides . Tortali is Ul's rival , after which the asteroid (3271) Ul is named. The name was proposed by the American astronomer Frederick Pilcher .
