The 1st league is the fourth highest ice hockey league in Switzerland. The 2019/20 season begins in September 2019. A total of 23 teams play in two groups. New are Star Forward (relegated MySports League) and HC Luzern (promoted 2nd league). EHC Uzwil, who were also entitled to play, and HC Villars withdrew due to financial problems.

Championship cancellation

On March 11, 2020, the canton of Ticino declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus epidemic . As a consequence, all ice rinks in the canton of Ticino were closed. As championship operation was no longer possible under these circumstances, the association decided, after consulting the clubs, to end the championship in all leagues and levels. This also affected the 1st league, in which the regional final series could not be played to the end. At a video conference on March 21, it was determined that there are no promotions at the green table. Since the championship could not be played completely, there was no promoter. Only HC Delémont Vallée was able to rise from the 2nd division . The team occupies 12th place in the western group in the 2020/21 season. As there was no promoted team in the eastern group, HC Luzern remained in the first division.

The teams in the Eastern Group play 22 games each. The first six teams qualify for the Masterround. The last six teams have to go into the Qualimasterround and will look for the last playoff participants.

Playoffs

All play-off rounds should be played best of five. The two winners of the respective region should play for the title of 1st league champions in the national final. Because of the coronavirus epidemic , the playoffs were canceled during the regional final series.

HC Luzern was determined to be a relegated team. Due to the coronavirus epidemic , however, no team was able to move up to the eastern group, which is why Lucerne remained in the first division.
