The 1981 Brainerd 200 km race , also known as the Pepsi Grand Prix (Camel GT), Brainerd International Raceway , took place on June 14 of this year at the Brainerd International Raceway . The race was the eleventh round of the IMSA GTP series in 1981 .

The race

With his success, Klaus Ludwig interrupted Brian Redman's winning streak , who won the last three GTX championship races, the 100-mile race in Laguna Seca , the 200-mile race in Lime Rock and the 200-mile race in Mid-Ohio , had won on his Lola T600 . and was not at the start here.

Ludwig drove a Ford Mustang , which was powered by a 1.7-liter, 4-cylinder in- line , turbocharged engine , the block of which came from the Ford Capri . The silhouette vehicle was assembled at Zakspeed in Germany. Roush Racing handled the race .

Ludwig won the race with a lead of almost a minute over John Fitzpatrick in the Porsche 935K3 / 80 .
