Mid-Ohio 200 Mile Race 1981
The 1981 Mid-Ohio 200-Mile Race , also known as the Red Roof Inns GT 200, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course , took place on May 31 of this year at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course . The race was the tenth round of the IMSA GTP series in 1981 .
The race
The race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course ended with another triumph for Briton Brian Redman in a Lola T600 . Before this success he had already won the races in Laguna Seca and Lime Rock . In addition, there was overall victory in the Daytona 24-hour race , which he achieved together with Bob Garretson and Bobby Rahal in a Porsche 935K3 .
John Paul junior achieved the best training time in the Porsche 935 JLP-3 with a time of 1: 29.170 minutes. Redman was sixth in training. He won the race with a lead of 31 seconds over the duo Giampiero Moretti and Bobby Rahal. Redman started again without teammates. This meant that he had to drive through for more than 2 hours on his own, but saved himself the need to change drivers during the pit stop to refuel. Moretti and Rahal, who had a change, could not make up this lost time against the fast Lola.
