Second Punic War
- April: Second Punic War : Hannibal crosses the Apennines .
- June 24th : Hannibal defeats the Romans under the consul Gaius Flaminius in the Battle of Lake Trasimeno (Second Punic War), Flaminius falls in the battle. Since Rome is now also threatened, the Senate appoints Quintus Fabius Maximus "Cunctator" as dictator .
- On the Iberian Peninsula , the Romans under Gnaeus Cornelius Scipio Calvus are successful in a naval battle against Carthaginians under Hasdrubal Barkas at the mouth of the Ebro . - Autumn: Hannibal crosses Umbria and reaches the Adriatic Sea in the Picener area .
