The 23.1 meter class is a series of four rescue cruisers (SK) of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS). The ships of this class were built in 1996 and 1997 by the Schweers shipyard in Bardenfleth . The type ship is the cruiser Hermann Rudolf Meyer , therefore one speaks of the Meyer class .

Furnishing

In this class, the DGzRS has made some significant changes compared to the previous classes.

After testing on the Fritz Behrens , a class with a delta hull shape was built for the first time. The widest part of the ship is the stern, which leads to better course stability in the high seas from the stern. Otherwise, the tried and tested net frame construction made of seawater-resistant aluminum was used. Cruisers and Tochterboot depend on a capsized on itself .

Because of the experiences from the Alfried Krupp accident , a closed main control station was built. If required, it can be operated in so-called gas protection mode. For this purpose, all bulkheads are closed and a slight overpressure is generated inside the ship, which prevents the penetration of harmful gases. In addition, the air intake for the machines is switched to filters and the exhaust gases are cooled down to a lower temperature in order to prevent them from e.g. B. cause a deflagration in an explosive air mixture. The upper wet cell serves as a lock, in which decontamination takes place to a certain extent. There is also an outside control stand with a minimum of controls that can be used when weather conditions permit and the crew depends on acoustic signals.

The cruisers are powered by two diesel engines (MTU 8V 396 TE 74L, 990 kW / 1,350 hp each), each of which acts on a propeller via a reversing gear. In addition, a bow thruster (72 kW / 98 PS) ensures improved maneuverability. The daughter boat is powered by a diesel engine (Steyr, 230 or 250 HP) and a propeller.

They are also u. a. Equipped with a fire extinguisher pump with an output of 380 m³ / h, a remote-controlled monitor with a 90 m throw, a tow hook, several searchlights , an on-board hospital, living rooms for the crew , mobile bilge pumps and the latest radio and navigation technology. The range is up to 1200 nautical miles .

The ships

Hermann Rudolf Meyer

The type ship (shipyard no. 6490) was put into service in July 1996, but the christening did not take place until October 11, 1996 together with the sister ship Hans Hackmack in Bremen-Vegesack . The ship was christened in the name of the Bremen publisher of the Weser-Kurier , Hermann Rudolf Meyer , a sponsor of the DGzRS, who died in 1979 . The DGzRS internal designation of the cruiser is SK 25. The daughter boat (hull number 6491) received the first name of Meyer's grandson Christian , it has internal designation TB 27.

Hermann Rudolf Meyer has been stationed in Bremerhaven since July 20, 1996 .

Hans Hackmack

The Hans Hackmack (shipyard no. 6492) was baptized on October 11, 1996 in Bremen-Vegesack in the name of the Bremen journalist and publisher of the Weser-Kurier , Hans Hackmack , a sponsor of the DGzRS, who died in 1970 . The DGzRS internal designation is SK 26. The daughter boat (hull number 6493) got the first name of Hackmack's wife Emmi . It has the internal designation TB 28.

In 2006 the cruiser was equipped with air conditioning. On this occasion, the daughter boat received a new engine of the same power.

From December 1996 to April 2011, the Hans Hackmack was stationed in Büsum . It has been part of the Grömitz station since April 8, 2011 . The cruiser is to be replaced by the new SK 41 cruiser in Grömitz in 2021 . The Hans Hackmack will then serve as a reserve cruiser.

Theo Fischer

The Theo Fischer was founded in 1997 under the shipyard no. 6494 built. The ship was christened in Emden on October 16, 1997 together with the sister ship Bernhard Gruben . It was named after the engineer who died on January 1, 1995 in an accident involving the rescue cruiser Alfried Krupp . The DGzRS internal designation of the cruiser is SK 27.

The daughter boat Ströper ( hull number 6495) has the internal designation TB 29. The name means "smart boy" in Mecklenburg Low German .

From April 11, 1997 to August 4, 2003 the Theo Fischer was stationed in Warnemünde . Since October 7, 2003 it has belonged to the DGzRS station Darßer Ort . Because the approach to the Darßer Ort emergency port was silted up , the cruiser had to be relocated to the port of Barhöft several times . This leads to longer travel times in emergencies in the Kadetrinne .

In 2021, the cruiser is to be replaced by the new SK 42 cruiser at the Darßer Ort station. The Theo Fischer will then serve as a reserve cruiser.

Bernhard Gruben

The Bernhard Gruben was founded in 1997 under shipyard no. 6496 built. On October 16, 1997, the ship was christened in Emden together with the sister ship Theo Fischer . It was named after the foreman who died on January 1, 1995 in the accident of the rescue cruiser Alfried Krupp . The DGzRS internal designation of the cruiser is SK 28.

The daughter boat Johann Fidi (hull number 6497) has the internal designation TB 30. It was named in honor of the Norderneyer family Rass, from whose ranks several generations of rescue men emerged. It is the second daughter boat of this name; the dinghy of the rescue cruiser Otto Schülke had already been named that way.

From August 5, 1997 to January 11, 2018, the Bernhard Gruben was stationed in the port of the East Frisian island of Norderney.

After a stay in the Jadewerft Wilhelmshaven, Bernhard Gruben started its service at the Hooksiel station on April 13, 2018. The foreman Steffens stationed there was sold to Rostock, where she has found a new home since October 2018 as the fireboat "Albert Wegener".
