The 292nd Infantry Division was a military major unit of the Army of the Wehrmacht .
Division history
The division was set up in February 1940 in Groß Born / Pommern as part of the 8th wave of deployment . For the western campaign , the division was relocated to Aachen and crossed the Maas at Montherme . Several fighting broke out on the Oise-Aisne Canal . After crossing the Marne , 292nd Infantry Division was involved in the fighting at Soilly and Try.
In 1941 the division was used as part of Operation Barbarossa on the Polish-Soviet border. On June 20, 1941, pioneers of the PiBtl. 179 a pontoon bridge at Drohiczin-Rogawka over the bow , so that the 292nd and 78th Infantry Division could cross over with heavy equipment. The IR 507, 508 and 509 crossed the river under protection of the artillery with rubber boats and assault boats . On June 26, 1941, IR 508 reached the Białowieża Primeval Forest , where the Red Army tied the attackers into a heavy forest fight for several days . Furthermore, soldiers of the 292nd Infantry Division were involved in the fighting over the Jelnja bend (July to September 1941), the boiler shafts of Roslavl and Klinzy and the double battle near Vyazma and Bryansk . During the advance on Moscow the 292nd Infantry Division was stopped at Akulowo and Nikolskije.
In January 1942 the remnants of the 292nd ID, 183rd ID and 255th ID were integrated into the "Seeger" group and fought at the positions of the Istra river. During 1943, the 292nd Infantry Division was involved in the Buffalo Movement Company , the Gypsy Baron Company and the Citadel Company of the Central Army Group . The year 1944 was marked by defensive and retreat battles between Pripjet and Bug.
In 1945 the division withdrew to East Prussia . In the battle of encirclement Heiligenbeil she was crushed and dissolved on 4 April 1945th
