  • Spring: The Roman emperor Diocletian leads an army to Egypt and defeats the local usurper Lucius Domitius Domitianus .
  • Roman-Persian Wars : The Roman Empire and the Persian Sassanid Empire conclude the Peace of Nisibis , in which the Persians must cede five provinces east of the Tigris and northern Mesopotamia . Nisibis is determined to be the only trading city between the two realms. The treaty meant a great gain in prestige for Rome, but a correspondingly great humiliation for the Persian side.
  • The main town of the Celtic Veneller changes its name in honor of the western Caesar Constantius I in Constantia, now known as Coutances , France.
  • In the battle of Langres (Lingonae) between the Alemanni and the Romans under Caesar Constantius fall, according to Roman data on 60,000 Alamannic warrior.
  • A Roman army under Caesar Constantius I defeated the Alamanni in the battle of Vindonissa and thus secured the Roman border.
