- February 8th : With the edict of restitution , the Roman emperor Julian lifts all banishment of Christian scholars in the empire. Among other things, Athanasius the Great and Lucifer of Calaris can return to their homeland.
- February 21 : The church father Athanasius , banished from the city , returns to Alexandria as bishop .
- Emperor Julian tries to partially reverse the Constantinian turning point and to strengthen paganism against Christianity and, with the edict of rhetoric, prohibits Christian teachers from teaching pagan literature. The edict caused a storm of indignation among Christian and pagan teachers. Among other things, Gaius Marius Victorinus resigns from office.
- Burning of the Temple of Apollo at Daphne down to the foundations as part of the conflicts connected with Julian's religious policy.
- Arian dispute : Athanasius calls the Council of Alexandria and then writes the text of Tomus ad Antiochenus .
