The 5th Division was a large unit of the Reichswehr , whose staff was stationed in Wehrkreis V in Stuttgart .

Lineup

In the order of July 31, 1920 to reduce the army (to the upper limits set in the Treaty of Versailles ) it was determined that a division should be set up in each military district by October 1, 1920 . The 5th Division was formed from the Reichswehr Brigades 11 in Kassel and 13 in Stuttgart of the transitional army .

In the course of the army increase in 1934, the divisional staff was reclassified and renamed the General Command of the 5th Army Corps .

Garrisons

The division headquarters was stationed in Stuttgart . The assumed associations were in Wuerttemberg and Hesse dislocated .

Commanders

The commander in Wehrkreis V was also the commander of the 5th Division.
