Lists on the subject |
The 7.92 × 94 mm P318 is a German armor-piercing rifle cartridge that was developed in the early 1930s .
development
Based on experience with the M1918 tank rifle in World War I , the Panzerbüchse 38 was developed for the infantry , which was supposed to fire ammunition, which was also to be newly developed.
The starting point for the development was the 13 × 92 mm HR cartridge , the penetration power of which was to be increased by reducing the caliber, the associated higher bullet speed and thus higher kinetic energy. The half rim of the 13 × 92 mm HR was given up in favor of a rimless sleeve.
ammunition
The combat cartridge 318 was provided with a pointed bullet with a hard core , tracer and gas capsule (SmKH-Rs tracer bullet).
Exercise cartridges had a pointed bullet without tracer and irritant gas capsule, and there were also space and exercise cartridges.
Penetration performance
The bullets penetrated 20 mm of armor steel at a 30 ° angle of impact and 300 m away . Even at the beginning of World War II, this was no longer sufficient to combat medium tanks.
