The Astra 600 was a self-loading pistol that was manufactured in Spain during the Second World War .
history
The order for this came from Germany. Spain was officially neutral, but was willing to supply limited quantities of raw materials and weapons to Germany. Due to an acute shortage of weapons, the Spanish orderly pistol of the Astra 400 type was tested there . This was not set up for the standard 9 mm Parabellum cartridge ; instead, a modified model that was adapted to this ammunition was ordered. By mid-1944 about 10,000 copies had reached the German armed forces . All later (and much larger) deliveries were intercepted by the Allies and sent back to Spain. After the end of the war there was a trade with the Federal Republic of Germany, with some police units and the newly established Federal Border Guard being equipped with pistols of this type. They were listed there as the P3 pistol , but were only in use for a short time and were retired by the mid-1960s.
technology
Although the weapon was set up for a strong army cartridge, only an unlocked ground lock was used. This was quite common in submachine guns: there, tight closing springs could be used without any disadvantages. With handy clamping levers, such weapons were easy to handle. In a self-loading pistol like this, the strong and compact spring made it extremely difficult to load. For this reason, with such powerful ammunition, a rigidly locked breech is usually chosen almost exclusively. The Astra 600's tap was covered. Since there was no double-action trigger, cocking was only possible by laboriously pulling back the slide.
