Lists on the subject

The Sturmgewehr 45 was an assault rifle design for the Wehrmacht and was developed by the Mauser company under the name Device 06 .

history

The weapon was Mauser's alternative to the StG44 from CG Haenel in Suhl and Carl Walther from Zella-Mehlis, especially in terms of manufacturing time and manufacturing costs. By the end of the war only individual parts for 30 complete copies were made, the weapon was no longer used.

It was shortlisted and tested, after which it was changed to "Device 06H". Under the designation StG 45 (M), 30 weapons were started at the plant in Oberndorf am Neckar , but only a few were completed. This assault rifle had a barrel of 430 mm long screwed into the housing and a delayed mass lock designed as a roller lock . The rifle fired the short cartridge in caliber 7.92 × 33 mm. The barrel had four turns in a right-hand twist. The muzzle velocity was 685 m / s, the weapon weighed 5.19 kg.

After the war, the system was first developed further in France at MAC and MAS , and later also in Spain at CETME . The German engineers Ludwig Vorgrimler and Theodor Löffler , who initially worked separately for France, were pioneers. Vorgrimler, who later worked in Spain, was instrumental in the development of the CETME rifle , which is based on the assault rifle 45. The roller lock was further developed and installed in a number of weapons. Well-known examples are the G3 rifle and other bolt-action rifles from Heckler & Koch .
