The Köslin-Belgarder Bahnen had been part of the Pomeranian State Railways since January 1, 1940, with an extensive narrow-gauge network.
AG Kleinbahn Köslin – Natzlaff
While the two district towns of Belgard and Köslin were already connected to each other and to the provincial capital of Szczecin by the Stargard – Danzig line of the Berlin-Szczecin Railway Company in 1859 , the neighboring district of Bublitz was not connected to the Prussian State Railway until 1896/97 . After that, the rail network remained patchy. In order to remedy this deficiency, an extensive small railway network with a gauge of 750 mm was built.
After a small railway was opened in the neighboring district of Schlawe in 1897, the AG Kleinbahn Köslin – Natzlaff was founded on February 17, 1898 . Their route was opened on November 1, 1898 and led from Köslin in an easterly direction via Manow to Viverow in the Bublitz district and after 32 kilometers reached Natzlaff in the Schlawe district. The 7 kilometer long continuation to Jatzingen was made at the same time by the Schlawer Kreisbahn and leased to the Kleinbahn Köslin – Natzlaff; thus it was able to reach the Schlawe – Pollnow line, which was already in operation on December 21, 1897, and carry out its trains from Köslin to Pollnow. The Krauss locomotive factory from Munich was the construction company for both small railroad companies.
When the Schlawer Kleinbahn converted their Schlawe – Pollnow line to standard gauge in 1934, the Jatzingen – Pollnow (five kilometers) section on which they traveled together received a three-rail track.
AG of the united small railways of the districts Köslin, Bublitz, Belgard
In order to realize the further expansion of the small railway network, the company was expanded after seven years, in which the Prussian state, the province of Pomerania and interested parties were now involved. From September 1, 1905, it was called the AG of the unified small railways of the Köslin, Bublitz, Belgard districts, and on November 1, 1905, the main part of its network was put into operation:
a) in Manow, a route branched off from the Köslin – Natzlaff line to the south via Schwellin to the then district town of Bublitz (34 km);
b) A branch of this route led from Schwellin in a westerly direction to the district town of Belgard (32 km).
c) From September 16, 1909, there was finally a 20-kilometer branch line from Belgard to Rarfin. This means that the company's own network was 118 kilometers in length. In addition, 12 kilometers of the Schlawer Kreisbahn were driven.
Köslin – Bublitz, Belgarder Kleinbahn AG
After the Bublitz district was attached to the Köslin district in 1932, the name of the company was changed. From April 12, 1933, the company was Köslin-Bublitz, Belgarder Kleinbahn AG .
The Pollnow – Sydow – Breitenberg branch line, built on May 29, 1898 by the Schlawer Kreisbahn, was leased to the Köslin – Bublitz, Belgarder Kleinbahn AG in 1934 after the Schlawe – Pollnow line had been re-gauged, as it continued to operate only narrow-gauge lines.
This increased the total operating length from 1934 to 145 km. The southernmost part from Sydow to Breitenberg (five kilometers long) was only used by freight trains. After all, two pairs of passenger trains ran between Köslin and Sydow on weekdays in 1944. On the other routes, the range of passenger services was limited.
The statistics for 1939/40 contain seven steam locomotives, 15 passenger cars, six pack cars, 162 freight cars and 27 special cars.
The Kleinbahn-AG, which had managed the operation itself in the first decades since the opening, commissioned the Pomeranian regional railway directorate to do so from 1937. In 1940 the AG lost its independence and became part of the Pomeranian State Railways with the name Köslin-Belgarder Bahnen. The administration was taken over by the regional railway office in Köslin.
In addition to rail transport, the AG had been operating a regular bus service since November 18, 1929, for which four vehicles were available in 1939. The four lines with a total length of 110 kilometers led from Köslin to Bublitz, to Pollnow, to Kratzig and to Jamund. In 1945 the lines were dismantled and the material transported to the Soviet Union.
After 1945
From 1952 the Polskie Koleje Państwowe (PKP) rebuilt the lines Koszalin – Bobolice, Białogard – Świelino and Białogard – Rarwino in meter gauge with old usable material , this line was extended beyond Rarwino to Sławoborze. Vehicles from other Pomeranian railways were used, as well as new PKP buildings. In 1984 three pairs of trains ran daily from Białogard to Świelino, and two to Sławoborze.
