Adolf Kehrer (born September 25, 1811 in Erbach (Odenwald) , † August 29, 1886 in Darmstadt ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Adolf Kehrer was a son of Hofrat Ludwig Kehrer († 1842) and Florentine, nee Klump († 1819).

Military career

Adolf graduated from high school in Worms and joined the 3rd Infantry Regiment of the Grand Ducal Hessian Army as a volunteer in 1828 . He was promoted to cadet corporal in 1831, second lieutenant in 1832 , battalion adjutant in 1836, first lieutenant in 1839 , and captain in 1848 . He took part in the suppression of the Baden Revolution , in particular in the battles near Kandern , Weinheim , Greater Saxony and Gernsbach . For his commitment he was awarded the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of Ludwig , the field service mark and the Baden Memorial Medal. He was then a member of the officers' examination commission for 1851. With his promotion to major in 1858, he also became battalion commander in the 2nd Infantry Regiment . At the beginning of February 1862 he switched to the 1st Infantry Regiment (Leib-Guard Regiment) in Worms as a lieutenant colonel and regular staff officer . In 1866, at the time of mobilization , Kehrer was corps director of the VIII German Federal Corps and took part in the campaign against Prussia . In the same year he returned to his regiment and, as a result of Article 16 of the peace treaty, became a member of the commission established with Prussia.

With promotion to colonel , Kehrer rose to regimental commander on January 24, 1867 . This was followed from July 10, 1867 to May 30, 1868 as a commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade in Darmstadt. Subsequently, aggregated to the brigade staff , he was commissioned three months later with the management of the affairs of the commandant of Darmstadt and appointed him on December 3, 1868 as commandant. In 1869 he received the character of major general. During the war against France he was stage commander in Darmstadt in 1870/71. In 1872 Kehrer was accepted into the Prussian Army . On his 50th anniversary in service, he received the star for the Crown Order II. Class with the number "50" and the Commander's Cross I Class of the Ludwig Order. Kehrer was 1880 his farewell with pension granted. On the occasion of his farewell, Grand Duke Ludwig IV honored him with the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Philip the Magnanimous .

family

Kehrer was married to Luise Susanne Marianne Werner. Between 1843 and 1853, four daughters resulted from the marriage.
