Karl Christian Freiherr Roeder von Diersburg (* March 20, 1828 in Darmstadt ; † February 7, 1899 ibid) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of the residential city of Darmstadt.

Life

Karl was a son of the Hessian court pension master Heinrich Johann Roeder von Diersburg (1789–1855) and his wife Julie, née Hesse (1801–1834).

Military career

Roeder attended high school in his hometown and on July 17, 1844, joined the 2nd Infantry Regiment (Grand Duke) of the Hessian army as a musketeer . By mid-May 1847 he was promoted to redundant second lieutenant and on December 13, 1847 was transferred to the 3rd Infantry Regiment as a regular second lieutenant . With the association Roeder took part in the battle near Hemsbach in 1848/49 during the suppression of the Baden Revolution . In 1851 and 1852 he was temporarily assigned to the engineer company, at the beginning of February 1856 he was transferred to the 1st Infantry Regiment (Life Guard Regiment) as a first lieutenant and served as a regimental adjutant from 1859 to 1866. As a captain and company commander , he took part in the battles near Fronhofen, Aschaffenburg and Gerchsheim in 1866 during the war against Prussia . After the war, he was assigned to the War Ministry in Darmstadt in mid-January 1867, and from July 11, 1867 to April 14, 1868, Roeder was an adjutant to the President of the War Ministry von Grolman . At the beginning of March 1870 Roeder rose to major and led the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Infantry Regiment (Life Guard Regiment) in the battles near Vionville , Gravelotte , Noisseville and Orléans and the siege of Metz during the war against France in 1870/71 .

Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, he was accepted into the Association of the Prussian Army on January 1, 1872 after the peace treaty and promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 18, 1875 . On April 13, 1878 he was transferred to Trier as commander of the 8th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 70 and in mid-April 1878 he was promoted to colonel . Under position à la suite of the 1st Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry (Leibgarde-) Regiment No. 115, Roeder was appointed commander of the residential city of Darmstadt on February 21, 1880. In this position, he was awarded on 6 December 1883. character as a major general and on September 18, 1886, the patent to his rank. In mid-October 1888 Roeder was given the character of Lieutenant General and as such he received the Order of the Crown, 2nd Class with Star, and Commander 1st Class of the Order of Philip the Magnanimous . With the award of the star for the Order of the Red Eagle II. Class with Oak Leaves, he was put up for disposal on April 9, 1891 with a pension .

family

Roeder married Christine Marie Seitz (1837–1871) on March 2, 1861 in Worms . After her untimely death, he married Marietta Freiin Roeder von Diersburg (1845-1918) on September 28, 1875 in Diersburg. Different children resulted from the marriages.
