Wilhelm Adolf Heinrich von Kettler (born December 9, 1818 in Oldendorf , † October 2, 1874 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Christian Adolf Karl Friedrich Wilhelm von Kettler (1761–1828) and his wife Gerhardine Luise, née Baare (1780–1861). His father was a Prussian captain a. D. as well as Mr. auf Brüggen and Gerkendael. The later Prussian Lieutenant General Karl von Kettler (1812–1893) was his older brother.

Military career

Kettler visited the school in Bielefeld and entered on June 22, 1835 as Fusilier in the 13th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army one. There he was promoted to Second Lieutenant on October 12, 1838 . From September 1848 to the end of August 1852, Kettler acted as adjutant and accounting officer with the 1st Battalion in the 13th Landwehr Regiment in Münster . On December 16, 1855 he was promoted to captain and was appointed company commander on July 7, 1858 . First he commanded the 4th, later the 11th Company. On February 10, 1863, when he was promoted to major, he was transferred to the staff of the 7th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 60 in Wriezen . In 1864, during the war against Denmark , Kettler and his association took part in the fighting near Missunde , Wielhou, the storming of the Düppeler Schanzen as well as the transition to Alsen . On April 16, 1864, Kettler was appointed commander of the 1st battalion and was deployed two years later during the war against Austria in the battle of Königgrätz . After the peace agreement , he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on December 31, 1866 with a patent from October 30, 1866 . He died a little later unmarried in Frankfurt am Main.
