Adolph Ferdinand Karl Freiherr von Wintzingerode (born February 16, 1801 in Hanau ; † March 18, 1874 in Bonn ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

His family came from Eichsfeld, now in Thuringia . He was the second eldest son of the Hesse-Kassel chamber councilor Levin von Wintzingerode (1768-1813) and his wife Amalie Luise, née von Motz (1776-1840). His brothers were the future Minister of State Freiherr Friedrich von Wintzingerode (1799–1870), the District President Freiherr Heinrich Philipp Rudolph Levin von Wintzingerode (1806–1864) and the Minister Baron Philipp von Wintzingerode (1812–1871).

Career

Wintzingerode began his career in 1819 as a fusilier in the 32nd Infantry Regiment and advanced there in the same year to portepee ensign and in 1821 to secondary lieutenant . In 1826 he was assigned to the Infantry Training Battalion and on 1829 was adjutant in the 15th Landwehr Brigade. He rose to prime lieutenant in 1831 and in 1834 became adjutant for the inspection of the occupation of the Mainz fortress . Wintzingerode was aggregated to the 38th Infantry Regiment in 1838 . From 1844 he was adjutant at the General Command of the VIII Army Corps and was promoted to major in 1845 . In 1846 he was battalion commander in the 40th Infantry Regiment and since 1850 chief of the General Staff of the VI. Army Corps . In 1851 he received the Order of St. John . In 1852 he rose to lieutenant colonel , in 1853 to colonel , was commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade in 1857 and in the same year commander of the 30th Infantry Brigade . In 1864 he took part in the war against Denmark before Düppel and Alsen . In 1864 Wintzingerode received the swords for the Red Eagle Order II. Class with star and oak leaves, the Commander's Cross for the Royal House Order of House Orders and the Order of the Iron Crown I Class with war decorations. In the end, Wintzingerode was put up for disposal in 1865 with a pension under the award of the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves and Swords on the Ring .

On October 7, 1835, he married Eleonore Josepha Krezzer (1808–1897), a daughter of the Senate President Lambert Josef Krezzer (1770–1865) from Cologne. The marriage resulted in a son and two daughters:

  • Klara Henriette Sophie Philippine (born December 25, 1842)
  • Auguste Luise (born August 14, 1844)
