Velódromo Olímpico Agustín Melgar
The Velódromo Olímpico Agustín Melgar is a cycling stadium in Mexico City . It is part of the Ciudad Deportiva Magdalena Mixhuca sports complex . It is named after the young cadet Agustín Melgar , who died at the Battle of Chapultepec on September 13, 1847 during the Mexican-American War . Melgar is one of the Niños Héroes .
history
The velodrome was built for the 1968 Summer Olympics , construction work lasted from May 6, 1967 to September 1968. The sports facility was designed by Jorge , Ignacio and Andrés Escalante Legorreta . The design of the train came from Herbert Schürmann from Münster . The track made of African hardwood is 333.33 meters long and seven meters wide and open. It has a slope of 39 degrees in the curves. The Velódromo Olímpico Agustín Melgar can seat 6400 spectators. Five competitions were held on the track during the Olympic Games.
