Ahmet Karlıklı according to other sources also Ahmet Karnıklı (born January 1, 1930 in Trabzon , † September 19, 1989 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish football player and coach. Through his many years of service for Galatasaray Istanbul , he is associated with these associations. He was an important part of the Galatasaray team that had a strong influence on Turkish football in the 1950s and 1960s with players like Metin Oktay , Kadri Aytaç , Suat Mamat and Turgay Şeren . Since Ahmet Berman , another Ahmet, moved to Galatasaray in the summer of 1959 , Karlıklı was called Küçük Ahmet (German: Little Ahmet) and Berman was called Büyük Ahmet (German: Great Ahmet), as was common in Turkish football .

Player career

Trabzon İdmanocağı and Adalet SK

Karlıklı began playing football in his hometown of Trabzon in 1950. Here he played until 1952 for the local football club Trabzon İdmanocağı , the first and at the time the strongest club in the city. Here he played with Nazmi Bilge , who later became a star in Turkish football.

In 1952 Karlıklı moved to the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul because of his further education . In Istanbul, in addition to his school education, he also began playing football at the sports club Adalet SK , which was founded only two years ago . At the time of his joining this club, there was no national professional league in Turkey. Instead, regional leagues existed in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara , Izmir , Adana and Trabzon , of which the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: Istanbul Professional League ) was considered the most renowned. Adalet was accepted at the same time as Karlıklıs entry into the Istanbul professional league and was therefore one of the inexperienced clubs in this league. In his first season, Karlıklı completed eight of the possible 18 league games for Adalet. In the course of the next season he won a regular place and kept it until he left.

Although Karlıklı had developed into one of the most prominent defenders in the league at Adalet, he was, to the surprise of the specialist press, together with his teammates Salim Cavunt and Fahrettin Güzey from his club in the summer of 1957 without a transfer fee.

Galatasaray Istanbul

After Karlıklı was put up for sale by Adalet, the league rival Galatasaray Istanbul in particular tried to get a commitment. The Beşiktaş Istanbul also intervened and tried to lure Karlıklı with a higher sum. This refused to his verbal promise to Galatasaray from and signed the contract with Galatasaray on June 21, 1957. According to the contract, he would receive a salary of 8,000 Turkish Lira , while Beşiktaş had offered him 15,000.

At Galatasaray, Karlıklı was first used regularly by head coach Musa Sezer and later by his successor George Dick . He completed twelve of the 18 league games in his first season and scored four goals. Under this coach Karlıklıs team reached the championship in the 1957/58 season and finished the next season behind Fenerbahçe as runner-up. During this time Karlıklı rose to the national team.

From the spring of 1959, Karlıklı took part with the team in the newly founded and nationwide Millî Lig (today's Süper Lig). This league replaced the regional leagues in the larger metropolitan areas, such as B. the Istanbul professional league , as the highest Turkish league. In the first season of the Millî Lig , the championship was played in two rounds. In the first round, the league system was divided into two separate groups. In the second round, the two group winners decided the championship among themselves in a final with a return leg. Karlıklı took part with his team in the group red in the competition and finished the group stage as first. Then the team played with Fenerbahçe in a return game from the first Turkish championship and lost to their arch rivals. Karlıklı played almost all of his team's games. For the second season of this league, Dick was replaced by Italian coach Leandro Remondini after three untitled seasons . Even under this coach, Karlıklı was no longer an undisputed regular place and completed only 25 of the possible 28 league games for his club. His team awarded the championship this season, far behind in 3rd place in the table, to Beşiktaş Istanbul .

After the club had remained without a championship title for four years, Gündüz Kılıç , the coach with whom the club could become Istanbul champions twice in the mid-1950s , was hired again in the summer of 1960 . Kılıç, who had also been responsible for the commitment Karlıklıs, put him in the Milli-Lig season 1960/61 in 22 league games. The team played under Gündüz 'leadership this season until the last matchday with arch rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul for the Turkish championship and then awarded it with a point difference. The following season, the season 1961/62 , ended Karlıklıs team by winning the first Turkish championship in the club's history. This season Karlıklı conquered a regular place again, was in the team planning of Kılıç an important role and completed almost all competitive games.

In the 1962/63 season his team managed to defend their title in the Turkish championship. Karlıklı Team also won the newly introduced Turkish Football Cup this season , becoming the first Turkish cup winner as well as the first Turkish double winner. In addition, in the 1962/63 European Cup, the quarter-finals and thus the best placement of a Turkish team to date in this competition in particular and in all European club competitions in general was achieved. In the quarterfinals, the team failed to AC Milan . Karlıklı completed eleven of the possible 20 league games in the first half of this season, but missed the games in the European Cup and did not start playing again until the first half of the season.

In the new season, Karlıklı failed to assert itself as an undisputed regular player, but he was used by the coaching staff in eight league games. This season, the team in the league missed the connection to the top of the table and finished the league in 3rd place in the table. In the next season, however, he was unable to build on his earlier performance. Instead, he only played two league games in the season. Also in the 1964/65 season, his team gambled away the championship. In the last two seasons 1963/64 and 1964/65 the team won the Turkish Football Cup for the second and third time. This also made Karlıklı part of the team that won the Turkish Football Cup three times in a row for the first time.

After the team had remained untitled for the last two years in the Turkish championship, a revision at Galatasaray was decided in the summer of 1967. For the defense and midfield, the players Ahmet Tuna Kozan , Ergün Acuner , Ertan Gürkan , Tuncer İnceler , Ergün Acuner and Bekir Türkgeldi were committed to and from the existing squad some players were put on the sales list, including Karlıklı. Galatasaray declared that they did not want to charge a transfer fee for Karlıklı. Karlıklı then ended his career and switched to coaching.

National team

Karlıklı began his career with the Turkish national team in 1958 with a commitment for the Turkish national team . As part of a test game Karlıklı was the Turkish national team coach Leandro Remondini in the Turkish national team nominated and made his senior international debut in this match. In 1962, this time Karlıklı appointed national coach Puppo Sandro to the squad of the Turkish A selection. In these nominations Karlıklı completed his last two internationals.

Coaching career

In the summer of 1966, Karlıklı took over the position of head coach at the Sakaryaspor club, which was founded only a year ago, and worked here for one season.

In August 1968 he took over the post of head coach at the Istanbul second division club Karagümrük SK . After he had left this club at the turn of the year 1968/69, he took over Sakaryaspor again as head coach in January 1969. Will be released here.

In the 1969/70 season, Karlıklı was in charge of the Trabzonspor club , which was founded only four years ago and is the club in his home town of Trabzon . After he had looked after this club until the winter break, he handed over his position to Altan Santepe . In the summer of 1971 he was introduced to Ceyhanspor as the new coach. From the summer of 1972 he worked for Konya İdman Yurdu .

In the 1975/76 season he worked at Galatasaray Istanbul as an assistant coach and assisted the English head coach Jack Mansell . In July 1976 he resigned from this office.

For the 1978/79 season he took over Karagümsük SK for the second time in his career and looked after it until the end of the season. After the season goal of promotion was missed, he left this club in the summer of 1979. In October 1979, he took over this club again. This time he led the team to the runner-up in the 3rd Futbol Ligi in the summer of 1980 and to promotion to the 2nd Futbol Ligi . After this success he remained coach of Karagümrük in the 1980/81 season.

After Karlıklı had left Karagümrük in the meantime, he took over this club again in April 1981. Also in the next season he stayed with Karagümrük.

In April 1982 he worked at Kırklarelispor as the head coach.

In November 1984 he worked at Vefa Simtel as a youth coordinator.
