Albert von Pappenheim

Friedrich Albert Graf zu Pappenheim (* 18 July 1777 in Pappenheim , † 1. July 1860 ibid ) was a Bavarian cavalry general , writer and deputy .

Life

family

He came from the noble family of Pappenheim and was the son of Reichsherbmarschall Friedrich Wilhelm Graf zu Pappenheim and his wife Friedericke, born Freiin von Seckendorff. His older brother Karl Theodor was the last ruling imperial count of the Grafschaft Pappenheim. Albert married on December 6, 1814 with Maria Antoinetta Freiin Taenzl von Tratzberg (1793–1861). The marriage produced nine children, including Clemens zu Pappenheim .

Career

Pappenheim was a landowner in Middle Franconia and Swabia . In 1792 he appeared as an ensign of cavalry in Austrian services and participated in the wars against France in part. In 1805 he said goodbye and in 1809 joined the Bavarian Army as a cavalry officer . Here he initially served as an orderly officer of Crown Prince Ludwig . In this position Pappenheim took part in the war against Austria in 1809 and rose to the rank of adjutant wing of King Max I Joseph the following year . At the same time he acted as an adjutant to Crown Prince Ludwig. In 1811 he was made major and in 1813 lieutenant colonel . In 1814/15 he took part in the Wars of Liberation . In 1825 Pappenheim became regimental commander in the cavalry, in 1827 major general and brigadier . With the promotion to lieutenant general on December 30, 1836, Pappenheim was appointed commander of the 2nd Army Division . In 1848 he was awarded the character as a cavalry general retired .

Pappenheim was a member of the Chamber of Imperial Councils for five periods from November 22, 1853 until his death on July 1, 1860 , where it belonged to the group of hereditary Imperial Councils. Pappenheim died at the age of 82 shortly before his 83rd birthday in his home town of Pappenheim.
