The FFH area Albtal with side valleys is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-7116-341) in the German state of Baden-Württemberg that was registered in 2005 by the Karlsruhe regional council in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) . With the ordinance of the regional council of Karlsruhe on the definition of areas of community importance of October 12, 2018, the protected area was established.

The FFH area, which consists of numerous sub-areas and is around 2,737 hectares in size, belongs to the natural areas 150- Black Forest-Randplatten , 151- Grindenschwarzwald and Enzhöhen and 152- Northern Black Forest within the natural spatial main unit 15- Black Forest . It lies between Waldbronn and Bad Herrenalb and extends over the markings of ten cities and municipalities.

Description and purpose of protection

The deeply incised meadow valleys of the Alb and its tributaries (including the high-altitude meadows of the Alb valley plates) are a typical section of the northern Black Forest with alder-ash forests, bristle grass lawns, moist tall herbaceous meadows, lowland hay meadows, silicate rocks and beech forests. Supplemented by former cleared areas, culturally and historically significant water meadows in the Moosalbtal, old mills and impressive rock formations.

Contiguous protected areas

The FFH area consists of numerous sub-areas. It almost completely overlaps with several landscape protection areas and lies entirely in the Black Forest Central / North Nature Park . The nature reserve 2178- Albtal and Seitentäler lies within the area .
