Alec Shane Benjamin (born May 28, 1994 in Phoenix , Arizona ) is an American singer-songwriter .

Life

Alec Benjamin

Alec Benjamin is from Phoenix, Arizona. Under the influence of artists such as Eminem , Paul Simon and Citizen Cope , he developed his own style, which is composed of elements such as film music and lo-fi , which are shaped by his youthful voice. He first published his songs on the Internet, attracting the attention of Columbia Records , to which he signed at the age of 18. In 2014 his debut single Paper Crown was released .

Shortly after he submitted his album, however, he was released from his contract by Columbia Records. Traveling alone again, he organized a European tour himself and played free concerts near venues where Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan later performed.

Back in the United States, he wrote New York Soul (Part II ) with Jon Bellion for his debut album The Human Condition . He then went on tour with Jon Bellion. At the same time his single Endless Summer was released .

A number of other concerts followed, within six months he played more than 165 shows and published a song about every two weeks on YouTube , which earned him around 150,000 subscribers. I Built a Friend followed in 2017 , which he featured on America's Got Talent and later went viral .

In 2019 he finally achieved his breakthrough with the song Let Me Down Slowly , which came from his independently published mixtape Narrated for You , but brought it to the Billboard Hot 100 together with Alessia Cara in a version published by Warner Music . In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, however, the original version charted.
