Alexander Barrow
Alexander Barrow (born March 27, 1801 in Nashville , Tennessee , † December 29, 1846 in Baltimore , Maryland ) was an American politician ( Whig Party ) who represented the state of Louisiana in the US Senate .
From 1816 to 1818, Alexander Barrow was educated at the US Military Academy at West Point . He then studied law and joined the bar in 1822, whereupon he first practiced in Nashville. A little later he moved to Feliciana Parish in Louisiana, where he also worked as a lawyer.
A few years later, Barrow closed his law firm to become a planter instead . He also began to be interested in politics and was initially a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for a few years . In 1840 he was elected to the US Senate for the Whigs, where he remained until his death in December 1846. In the Senate, among other things, he was chairman of the committee for public buildings and areas .
His half-brother Washington Barrow was also active as a Whig politician and sat for Tennessee in the US House of Representatives from 1847 to 1849 .
