Alfred Au (born December 14, 1898 in Mannheim ; † October 27, 1986 ) was a German football player .

Career

Au belonged to the VfR Mannheim from 1917 to 1930 , for which he worked alongside the later Reich coach Otto Nerz and three years later in his position as a left wing runner .

From the 1919/20 season he played in the South German Football Association in the Odenwald district league , from the 1923/24 season in the Rhine district league , from the 1927/28 season in the Rhine / Saar district league in the regional highest division.

During this time he won the Rhine regional championship three times and the South German championship once. Due to the latter success, he took part with the team in the final round of the German championship and played his only final game on May 3, 1925 in Weidenpescher Park in Cologne in front of 12,000 spectators, the last 16 game, which was lost 4-1 at TuRU Düsseldorf . The round of 16 for the Tschammer Cup on November 3, 1935 in Mannheim against VfL Benrath was his only game in the first-ever competition for the national club cup.

The 1933/34 season he played for SV Waldhof Mannheim in the Gauliga Baden , in one of initially 16, later increased to 23 Gauligen at the time of National Socialism as a uniform top division in the German Empire ; at the end of the season he won the Gaume Championship with the team.
