The Algerian Army ( Arabic الجيش الوطني الشعبي/ Al-Jaish al-Watani al-Sha'bi ) has a strength of about 127,000 soldiers .

Six military regions are subordinate to the Army High Command ( HQ : Algiers ):

  • North (I. Military Region) in Blida
  • Northwest (II. Military Region) in Oran
  • Southwest (III. Military Region) in Bechar
  • Eastern desert region (IV. Military Region) in Ouargla
  • East (V. Military Region) in Constantine
  • Sahara (VI. Military Region) in Tamanrasset
