Alna is a town in Lincoln County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 709 inhabitants in 295 households on an area of 55.22 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Alna has a total area of 55.22 km², of which 54.13 km² are land and 1.09 km² are water .
Geographical location
Alna is centrally located in Lincoln County. The Sheepscot River initially flows east through the north of the area and then runs south along the eastern border of the town. The Dresden Bog Reservoir borders in the west . The surface is flat, without any significant elevations.

history
Alna initially belonged to Pownalboro, as well as Dresden, Wiscasset and Perkins. Except for the land of the Town Perkins, Christopher Lawson bought the area from the Indians in 1649. He sold it to Messrs. Clark and Lake. Lake settled in the area and was later killed by Indians. In 1754 a fort was built across from Swan Island. It was named after Governor William Shirley . Pownalboro was organized as a town in 1760 and named after Thomas Pownall . For more than 30 years, Pownalboro was the Shire Town of Lincoln County's. The former Lincoln County's Court House is in the town. It was placed under monument protection. The first settlers in 1760 included the Cushing brothers William , Charles and Rowland. They shaped the area, William and Rowland were attorneys and judges, Charles Brigade General of the Militia and the first sheriff of Lincoln County.
After the War of Independence, Alna grew. On June 25, 1794, the north of the town of Pownalborough was organized as an independent town under the name New Milford . This was changed to Alna in 1811. The name comes from the Latin Alnus , German alder, and is derived from the alders that grow in the area of the town. In addition to agriculture, shipbuilding was an important industry in Alna. At the beginning of the 19th century, shipyards in Alna built 103 schooners and briggs .
The Wiscasset – Burnham railway runs through Alna, where a 3.5 km long section is still preserved today and is operated as a museum railway. The railroad was built from 1894 by the Wiscasset and Quebec Railroad .
