The 1997-98 season was the sixth regular hosting of the Alpenliga in hockey , with a total of nine professional teams from Austria and Slovenia was held. Defending champion was VEU Feldkirch , which was able to secure the championship for the third time in a row this season.

Participant field and mode

After only two Italian teams had already participated in the league last year, the field of participants this season consisted only of Slovenian and Austrian teams, although these had remained the same.

In the basic round, a simple round-trip round was first played, which meant sixteen games for each team. Then the finalists were determined in two tournaments. The teams in ranks 1, 4, 5 and 8 were assigned to group A, those in ranks 2, 3, 6 and 7 to group B. The two group leaders finally competed against each other in the final.
