The Old Prussian Cuirassier Regiment No. 8 was formed in 1690 and dissolved in 1806. It took part in numerous campaigns and had Friedrich Wilhelm von Seydlitz, one of the most important Prussian cavalry leaders, as chief.

formation

In 1690, Colonel Baron Kaspar Friedrich von Lethmate recruited two companies to strengthen the Kurprinz regiment . Instead, these companies and two companies from Mecklenburg riders and two companies from Bayreuth riders, a regiment under the command of Margrave Christian Ernst of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, were established .

In 1718 four companies of the von Heyden regiment were incorporated. This brought the regiment to 10 companies (5 squadrons)

resolution

After the Prussian defeat in the battle of Jena and Auerstedt , the remnants of the regiment had to capitulate on October 29, 1806 at Pasewalk. The regiment's depot was captured during the surrender of Schweidnitz on February 16, 1807. At Pasewalk a detachemant had escaped and reached Prussia. There he was summarized together with the remains of the Dragoon Regiment No. 2, in the provisional squadron Reisewitz. During the campaign in Prussia (end of May 1807) this was the 6th Squadron of the Cuirassier Regiment No. 4 (Wagenfeld) and was finally incorporated into this by cabinet order of October 16, 1807.

Standards and timpani

The regiment had not lost a standard during the Seven Years' War. The standards held in 1806 were stored in the Erfurt Fortress and were destroyed before the surrender of Erfurt. The silver timpani and timpani flags given to the regiment by Emperor Josef were lost when Schweidnitz surrendered in 1807.
