Office Wellmich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Office Wellmich was a Kurtrierscher and later Nassau administrative district with its seat in Wellmich , today a northern district of the Loreley town of St. Goarshausen on the right bank of the Rhine .

history

The Burg mouse above Wellmich formed the core of the Kur-Trier county in this part of the Rhine valley. In the late Middle Ages, official structures were formed. Due to the small size of the office, it was mostly administered jointly with the Boppard office. Since the 18th century it was subordinate to the Oberamt Boppard .

Besides Wellmich, the Trier office also included Prath , Dahlheim , Hirzenach and Rheinbay .

In the first coalition war, France conquered the Left Bank of the Rhine in 1794 and later annexed it. With that the office lost its parts on the left bank of the Rhine and Wellmich, Prath and Dahlheim remained. The Reichsdeputationshauptschluss ended the existence of Kurtrier in 1803. The Wellmich office came to the Principality of Nassau-Weilburg in accordance with Section 12 of the contract with the other parts of Kurtrier on the right bank of the Rhine . Now the office was expanded to include neighboring locations that had also fallen to Nassau-Weilburg. It now consisted of Camp , Dalheim, Ehrenthal , Filsen , Kestert , Lykershausen , Prath and Wellmich.

With the formation of the Duchy of Nassau in 1806, the Wellmich office became one of the 63 offices of the Duchy of Nassau and part of the Ehrenbreitstein administrative district . In the years 1803 to 1816, offices in Nassau were merged in many individual steps and without a recognizable systematic in order to create a more effective administration. So the offices of Wellmich and Oberlahnstein were dissolved and assigned to the office of Braubach .
