Saarburg Office
The Saarburg Office was an administrative district in the Electorate of Trier and a municipal district in the Saarburg district until the regional reform in 1970 .
history
The districts of the Electorate of Trier all grew out of castles or, like Saarburg, were already castle towns after which the districts were named. In the 14th century, Saarburg Castle in the city of Saarburg became the administrative seat and jurisdiction of the Saarburg Office. The area was largely identical to the area of the later district of Saarburg in Prussian times. In 1354 Peter von der Leyen was appointed the first bailiff of the Saarburg office, who replaced the previous burgraves in this function .
In 1563 the office, which was divided into the city of Saarburg, the Gaupflege, the Irscher care and the care Losheim, comprised a total of 91 places. After the Losheim nursing home was discontinued in 1778 and became the new Merzig office , 60 places remained. At the end of the Electorate of Trier, the area of the Saarburg office was annexed to France in 1801 and belonged to the Saar department with its seat in Trier .
