The coat of arms was designed by Karl Heinz Brust and approved on February 10, 1983. The head of the shield refers to the former affiliation to the Electorate of Trier . The abbot's staff and ax are based on motifs in an old seal that has been kept by the S. Matthias Abbey in Trier to date . The oil lamp jug ("lamp") refers to the place name "Lampaden". It symbolizes the former delivery of lamp oil to maintain the church lights.
