The district court of Nördlingen is one of 73 district courts in Bavaria and a court of ordinary jurisdiction . The head office is at Tändelmarkt 5 in Nördlingen .

history

Justice has a long tradition in Nördlingen . As early as 1233 the appointment of a judge, the Ammann, was carried out by the king. As a result of the pledge of the city by Conrad IV. In 1250, it lost its jurisdiction . It was not bought back for 1000 pounds of Heller until 1323 .

Until 1348, under the chairmanship of the Ammann, twelve consuls, assessors or councilors from the urban patrician families exercised administration , legislation and jurisdiction in the city. With the revolution of the guilds in 1348 this changed considerably. The Ammann was no longer involved in the decision, but led the judicial procedure, pronounced judgments and supervised enforcement. The decision was made by twelve to 32 citizens, depending on the case, who were called lay judges (scabini) from 1401 onwards. Although the Ammann retained the chairmanship of the court, he was excluded from legislation and administration. With two newly elected lay judges every month, he decided cases which were then carried out in front of the town hall . The blood justice was carried out on the street outside the city. In the 16th century , the court advised the mayors .

Between 1589 and 1598 were made by the court in Nördlingen during Inquisition 34 women and one man of witchcraft found guilty and burnt at the stake condemned.

In 1810 it became the Royal Bavarian Regional Court and in 1875 the Royal Bavarian District Court, which was housed in its own building at Tändelmarkt 5. In 1972 the Donauwörth District Court was incorporated into the Nördlingen District Court. In 1990 the building at Tändelmarkt 5 was expanded. As part of the administrative reform, the Donauwörth branch was closed on November 1, 2005 and integrated into the main office.
