András Benk ( Hungarian Benk András ; born September 3, 1987 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Újpesti TE in the MOL league since 2016 .

Career

András Benk began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth of Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Hungarian ice hockey league in the 2005/06 season and was awarded the Kósa Cup as the best young player. He then moved to the junior division of the Swedish second division club Huddinge IK , for whose U20 juniors the attacker was on the ice in the 2006/07 season. After only one year abroad, the left-shooter returned to his Hungarian homeland in the summer of 2007, where he received a contract with Alba Volán Székesfehérvár . There he initially ran in parallel in the Austrian ice hockey league and the Hungarian ice hockey league . With Alba Volán he was Hungarian champion in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 . He also won the Gábor Ocskay memorial tournament with the club in 2009, 2010 and 2011 . Since 2012 he has been used exclusively in the Austrian ice hockey league, in which he has played over 400 games since 2007. In 2016 he returned to his hometown and joined the Újpesti TE , for which he has since played in the multinational MOL league .

International

For Hungary, Benk took part in the junior division in the U18 junior world championships in division II in 2003 , 2004 and 2005 as well as in the U20 junior world championships in division II in 2005 and 2007 and in the U20 junior world championships in division I in 2006 .

In the senior division, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2008 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2017 and 2018, as well as in the World Championships in the top division in 2009 , when the Hungarians again in the highest for the first time in 70 years Competed in the league and in 2016 . He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and 2018 in Pyeongchang .
