Andrés Córdova

Andrés Fernández de Córdova Nieto (born May 8, 1892 in Cañar , † October 3, 1983 in Quito ) was an Ecuadorian lawyer and politician of the Liberal Party and from December 10, 1939 to August 10, 1940 ruler ( encargado del poder ) of his country .

Córdova received his doctorate in law from the Universidad de Cuenca in 1920 and then worked as a university professor and later rector. He was a member of parliament, a senator and the Luis Larrea Alba government minister for building. In 1939 he was also represented in parliament, the year in which President Aurelio Mosquera Narváez died , who was only briefly replaced by Senate President Carlos Alberto Arroyo del Río . Thereupon Córdova was briefly president in his function as chairman of the lower house and prepared presidential and parliamentary elections.

After his tenure, he continued to be politically active, as Mayor of Cuenca and in 1951 as Minister of the Interior under President Galo Plaza Lasso . He also continued to work as a university professor and dean, later also at the Universidad Central del Ecuador .

In 1968 Córdova competed in the presidential elections, but was defeated by Velasco Ibarra .
