Angela Praesent (born March 29, 1945 in Mannheim ; † June 20, 2009 in Heidelberg ) was a German translator, publisher's editor and writer.

Life

Angela Praesent grew up in Mannheim and Heidelberg. She studied German and English and received her doctorate in 1977 from the University of Düsseldorf with a thesis on George Orwell as a doctor of philosophy. She then took on teaching positions at German and American universities. She worked as a radio editor and publisher's editor, and in the 1980s she edited the Neue Frau series together with Gisela Krahl at Rowohlt Verlag . In 1988 she participated as an author and from 1992 to 1994 as a juror at the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt . Angela Praesent lived in Hamburg and in Cotignac (France).

In addition to occasional literary texts of her own, Angela Praesent has come out mainly with translations from English and French. In 1996 she received the Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt Prize and the Paul Celan Prize for her translations .
