Anna Germanovna Biryukova

Anna Germanowna Birjukowa ( Russian Анна Германовна Бирюкова , English transcription Anna Biryukova , née Derevyankina ; born September 27, 1967 in Sverdlovsk ) is a former Russian athlete who competed for the Soviet Union until 1991. With a height of 1.74 m, her competition weight was 60 kg.

Life

Anna Biryukova began her career in the long jump . She was third in 1989 and second in 1990 in the championships of the Soviet Union. After her son Aleksandr was born in March 1992, she returned to competition in 1993, now as a three-jumper .

After jumping 14.74 m in Bratislava in June 1993, albeit with too much tailwind, she achieved a world record of 15.09 m and the first at the World Championships in Stuttgart , where the triple jump was held for the first time A woman jumped over the 15-meter mark. She won gold in front of the dethroned world record holder Jolanda Tschen (RUS) and Iwa Prandschewa (BUL).

At the European Indoor Championships in 1994 Birjukowa won silver behind her compatriot Inna Lasovskaya with 14.72 m . In 1994 she had three big wins outdoors. At the European Championships in Helsinki she won with her season best of 14.89 m ahead of Inna Lassowskaja and Inessa Krawez (UKR). She also won the triple jump at the World Cup and the Goodwill Games .

In 1995 Anna Birjukowa managed the second longest jump of her career at the World Championships in Gothenburg with 15.08 m. Nevertheless, she only came in third because Inessa Krawez jumped a new world record in her third attempt with 15.50 m and Iwa Prandschewa also managed the longest jump of her career with 15.18 m.

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Anna Birjukowa missed the final fight by an inch with 14.19 m as 13th of the qualification. In qualifying for the 1997 World Championships , Anna Birjukova was so badly injured that she never found her way back into the world class.
