Anton Friedrich Theodor Seetzen (born April 22, 1868 in Großpösna ; † January 15, 1943 in Dresden ) was a German lawyer and politician ( DNVP ). He was a member of the Saxon State Parliament and Lord Mayor of Wurzen . He also worked as a savings bank functionary and consistorial president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony .

Life

Seetzen's parents were the cultural engineer Carl Diedrich Johann Seetzen, who comes from Jever , and Johanna Erdmuthe Voigt. He studied at the St. Thomas School in Leipzig . His study of law and political science from 1887 to 1891 at the University of Leipzig was financially supported by Ludolf Colditz , who was a wealthy industrialist. From 1891 to 1894 he was a trainee lawyer at the district court of Leipzig and Lommatzsch. In 1894 he became a trainee lawyer and assessor at the Leipzig city council. From 1905 to 1908 he was a representative of the 8th urban constituency of the Conservative Member of the Second Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament . From 1914 until its dissolution in 1918, he was the 1st magistrate of the city of Wurzen in the I. Chamber. In 1919 he became a member of the DNVP .

During the First World War he was a captain in the Landwehr at the war clothing office in Leipzig. He was honored with the Order of Albrecht I Class and the Saxon War Merit Cross.

After the war he was cathedral dean and provost at Wurzen Cathedral . From 1917 to 1927 he was President of the Synod and from 1927 Consistorial President of the Evangelical Lutheran State Consistory of Saxony . In 1933 he was given a forced leave by the National Socialist Bishop Friedrich Coch and retired. In 1932 he was a member of the German Evangelical Church Committee , whose president he became in 1933 as the successor to Hermann Kapler . Besides August Marahrens and Hermann Albert Hesse, he was also a member of the three-man college (so-called Kapler committee). He was instrumental in drafting the constitution of the German Evangelical Church from 1933. Seetzen received an honorary theological doctorate (D. theol. Hc).

Honor

Friedrich SEETZEN was canon of the cathedral to Wurzen . The sculptor Georg Wrba was won over for the extensive redesign of the interior of the cathedral in 1931/1932 . He created a cycle of late Expressionist sculptures made of cast bronze , which still dominate the cathedral's furnishings today, including the bronze pulpit : the heads of the apostles at the base of the pulpit cage bear the facial features of the canons of that time - including the Seetzens.
