Anton von Zglinicki

Friedrich Otto Anton Stephan von Zglinicki (born October 13, 1775 in Berlin , † September 21, 1843 in Altlandsberg ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 7th Infantry Brigade .

Life

His parents were the major and commandant of Brieg Anton von Zglinicki (1727–1791) and his wife Susanne Elisabeth, née du Titre (Dutrite) (1746–1814).

Military career

Zglinicki came on August 16, 1787 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Lichnowski" of the Prussian army . There he became an ensign on June 7, 1793 and as such took part in the battle near Malgotsch during the campaign in Poland in 1794/95. By April 10, 1804, Zglinicki was promoted to prime lieutenant .

In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Jena and was made inactive after the capitulation near Prenzlau. Zglinicki fought his way to East Prussia, joined the "Marwitz" Freikorps in 1807 and became staff captain on September 20, 1807 . After the dissolution of the Freikorps he came to the grenadier battalion "Wangenheim", which was formed from the grenadiers of the regiments "von Ruits" and "von Ploetz" . On January 31, 1808 he was promoted to captain and transferred to the 1st Pomeranian Infantry Regiment (No. 2) as a company commander . During the Russian campaign, Zglinicki fought in the siege of Riga in 1812 and was seriously injured in captivity in the battle near Dahlenkirch.

During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig , Laon and in the battle on the Waal, near Antwerp, Compiegne and Herzogenbusch. He also took part in the storm on Wittenberg and in the storm on Arnhem. For Großbeeren he received a commendation, at Dennewitz he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class and for Arnheim he received the Cross 1st class. In addition, on March 26, 1813, Zglinicki became major and commander of the 1st Reserve Battalion in the Colberg Infantry Regiment (No. 9) . Shortly thereafter, on June 1, 1813, he was transferred to the 9th Reserve Infantry Regiment (No. 21) as commander of the 1st Battalion . On April 10, 1815, he came to the 3rd Rhenish Landwehr Infantry Regiment as a commander and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 3, 1815 .

On June 9, 1817 he was appointed commander of the 19th Infantry Regiment and in this position Zglinicki was promoted to colonel on April 3, 1820 with a patent from April 11, 1820 . This was followed on March 30, 1830, a position as commander of the 7th Infantry Brigade and a year later the promotion to major general. In recognition of his services, Zglinicki received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, on January 22nd, 1836 . On March 15, 1838, he was his farewell to the statutory pension . He died on September 21, 1843 in Altlandsberg.

In his assessment from the year 1820 by General von Hiller it says: “Is a recognized, good, chivalrous man, very zealous, punctual and strict in his service, a moderation of his violent temperament is still to be desired. Incidentally, the 19th regiment is constantly increasing in dressage, instruction and order. The army has a respectable, reliable staff officer in Colonel von Zglinicki for War and Peace, who can also be recommended as a brigade commander ”.

Zglinicki married Henriette von Zitzewitz (1794–1861) on October 18, 1810 in Kosemühl . The couple had several children:

In recognition of his services, the widow received, in addition to her widow's salary, an annual pension of 200 thalers and a grant to raise her youngest son.
